shawn before the wedding |
On July 4th, 2003, Amity Tamah Brown & Shawn Matthew Lauriat decided to take the plunge into recognized marriage. Even though we had legally wed when we eloped in January, we realized that we wanted to share the meaning of our relationship with our friends and family. And after much organizing, spending of money, cooking and creating, we managed to pull off a pretty (at least in our eyes) amazing ceremony.
Scott Lesser performed the ceremony. As a long time friend of Amity, and a very spiritual person, we decided that he would help create an atmosphere of joyous occasion. Amity's sister Joshel stood in as Maid of Honor, while her two other sisters acted as Bridesmaids. Barbara White, also a long term friend of Amity, stood in as Shawn's Best "Man" as their friendship has deepened over the years, causing her to make perfect sense in that role. Our good friends Michael Hsieh and Abukuse Mbirika took part as Shawn's Groomsmen. The ceremony and reception took place under a tent on Amity's father's (Charles E. Brown, VMD) property in New York. With rolling hills, a beautiful old house and barn, horses, trees, and wonderful weather we couldn't have asked for a more lovely setting. Amity prepared the food with the deft assistance of her sisters Ilyssa and Rebecca. Her father even chipped in a bit and helped with the eggplant parmesan. The completely vegetarian menu consisted of eggplant parmesan, an assortment of quiche, bean salad, spinach salad, pasta salad, garlic mashed potato salad, baked brie in puff pastry, and french bread. Amity's step-mother, Melody Brown, created spinach and feta in filo and a vegetable platter. Amity baked a four tier hazelnut chocolate mousse cake which she decorated with the assistance of her sister Ilyssa. Ilyssa did a beautiful job with the freshly picked miniature roses. Gail Peters created the lovely table flower arrangements and Melody designed Amity's rose bouquet and Shawn's boutonniere. |
