This Thanksgiving sucks

I had oral surgery yesterday to remove a cyst about 2.5 cm in diameter from my lower lip. Definitely glad to have that out of there, but thanks to swelling from the surgery, I now look like I have a tennis ball stuck in my face. Even mashed potatoes will prove difficult to eat today…

As far as surgery goes, I had a fairly easy time of it. I think it took less than an hour, and once the sedatives wore off, I didn’t feel particularly ill or anything. I just can’t really eat anything requiring chewing, and I can’t talk very easily.

time warner cable’s dns servers went out texas-wide yesterday after they had a fiber cable cut. since then, they’ve spent the last day making the fix for real. unfortunately, this resulted in access going down (for our server…) for almost 24 hours.

shortly after that started, we lost power for several hours, outlasting our upc…

power came back up and we headed off to houston for our weekend trip not realizing i had plugged the server into the incorrect upc (we have two portables and a regular). shortly thereafter, the upc gave out, the server went down, and time warner cut service again to repair it for real.

thanks to the people we have house-sitting, and our g3 imac server that won’t die, we now have a server again.

we’ve ordered a replacement server, which will boost us from:

1. 512m ram to 2g ram
2. 333mhz ppc to dual core xeon 2.4ghz
3. 80g drive to two 250g drives in a raid1

thank you, business amex card!

soon (not soon enough, but soon), we head off to a nice, big dinner at a really good ethiopian restaurant.
